What do you think?

I'm doing this piece for a class - the theme is Beauty and the Beast. Now, the point I want to get across is that there is a nerdy kid in some sort of eatery/cafeteria who has fallen down and is picking up his food. Behind him, there is a very attractive girl.

Here's the question I need you to answer - should the girl be

1. Scoffing at him

or

2. Sympathizing with him

or

3. Blurred out and not detailed to show any definite emotion

What I want to avoid is being any more cliche than I already am by doing a nerd and a pretty girl. Would it be more cliche to make the nerd the "beast" and have him pitied by the "beauty"? Or would it be worse to have the girl be the "beast" and look down on the nerd who is really the "beauty" inside?

Please feel free to comment here (or my facebook if you have it) and let me know your opinion.

  1. Ooh, I was initially, of course, thinking she's scoffing, but then I like the sympathizing suggest. I think that would add more depth.

    But then your last option, to blur it out sounds even cooler. It's like the kid actually doesn't know if the pretty girl is scoffing or sympathizing for him, but he would likely just project whatever he thinks on to her in this situation while in reality, he doesn't actually know but will be influenced by whichever option he does fabricate in his mind.

    Very cool. [;

  2. I like the blurred thing too. Everyone could take it how they wanted to.

  3. I like the idea of scoffing because it's not the classic "Beauty and the Beast." She doesnt care about him cuz he's a lowlife dweeb. The could even be laughing at him with her friends or something. On the other hand, her secret sympathy could be interesting to portray in a painting. I'm not too much of a fan of the blurred out idea. Yo could blur out around her though. Make sure the food is all messy and yucky on the floor around him ;) Good luck!

  4. I really like what Lauren said about blurring around them but including them in detail with the girl sympathizing for him!

  5. Blurred so that the viewer can interpret how they want!

  6. Well I like the idea of being blurred and maybe have the girl look like she's taking a step forward. Is she going to help him or going to rub it in? One of those painting that let the viewer argue over what's happening.

  7. I'm really bad at the whole "reading in to things and pulling out more than what's on the surface" so...I'm not much help. I can't decide which of the scenarios would be best but I'm sure you could do any of them well.
