I've been working all this week on a book cover commission for my cousin of a warrior with a reaper-like assassin behind him. When I was started painting details into the guy's face, I realized that if I made him look a little younger... he looked kind of like me...
A little fantasized and not a perfect likeness, but still, it was kind of a startle.
The colors and the way that this is illuminated...wow. Simply wow. Fantastic.

ReplyDeleteSubconsciously putting yourself into a portrait is not uncommon. Just be glad it happened while painting a cool warrior - mine happened while painting a portrait of a Catholic nun! And it wasn't subtle either. Everyone noticed.
